Satta Matka vs Satta King: What Is the Difference?
People often search "Satta Matka vs Satta King" because the two names are used as if they meant the same thing. They do not. Both are kinds of satta (सट्टा, betting on numbers), but they come from different cities, record results in different ways and are followed by different people. For the basics of the North Indian games, start with our main guide, what is Satta King.
This page compares the two side by side. It explains the format of results only at a high level, so you can tell which chart you are looking at. It does not explain how to bet, and this site does not cover matka results at all.

Where did Satta Matka come from?
Matka began in Bombay. Press reports say that in the 1950s, Bombay punters placed bets on the day's first and last cotton prices. Those prices reached the Bombay Cotton Exchange from New York by teleprinter. DNA and Business Today say this practice ended around 1961.
After that, operators reportedly began drawing numbers written on slips of paper from a large earthen pot, or matka (मटका). That is where the name comes from. Later, three numbers were drawn from a pack of playing cards, but the old name stayed. PTI dates the start of matka to 1962, when Kalyanji Bhagat started Worli Matka. Ratan Khatri, who worked with Bhagat before starting his own game, became known in the press as the "Matka King". Matka spread among Bombay's mill workers and later faced a heavy police crackdown in the 1990s.

Where did Satta King come from?
Satta King is the popular name for a family of two-digit number games from Delhi-NCR and nearby states. The best-known are Desawar (Disawar, Dishawar, दिसावर), Gali (गली), Faridabad (Faridabaad) and Ghaziabad (Gaziabad, गाज़ियाबाद).
Unlike matka, these games have no documented founding story. Many websites repeat stories about who started Gali or when Desawar began, but we have found no reliable source for them. The game names come from places and old market words. Our guide on what Gali and Desawar mean explains the words without the folklore.
The phrase "Satta King" itself is used in two ways. Results websites use it as a catch-all name for these games. In news reports, a "satta king" usually means a person: the alleged boss of a betting racket.
How are the results different?
A matka result has three parts, while a Satta King result is a single two-digit number. This is the biggest practical difference in any Satta Matka vs Satta King comparison, and the easiest way to tell the two apart on a chart.
In matka records, each result line shows an "open" three-digit number called a panna (or patti), a two-digit jodi in the middle, and a "close" panna. In Satta King records, each game has just one number from 00 to 99 per day. There is no panna and no open or close part. On Satta King charts the word jodi (जोड़ी, "pair") simply means that two-digit result. Our Satta King glossary explains jodi, XX and other chart words.
Names can still be confusing. The word "bazar" appears on both sides: Main Bazar is a matka name, while Delhi Bazar (दिल्ली बाज़ार) is a two-digit Satta King game. Always check the format, not just the name.
How is the timing different?
Matka declares its result in two parts, the open and then the close. Each Satta King game declares one result a day at its own fixed time in Indian Standard Time.
For example, Desawar is declared early in the morning at about 05:15 AM, Faridabad at about 06:00 PM, Ghaziabad at about 08:50 PM and Gali late at night at about 11:55 PM. Results are filed under the date they were declared. The Satta King result time table lists the times of every game we track.
How are the charts different?
Matka charts usually come in two kinds: a panel chart, which records all three parts of each day's result, and a jodi chart, which records only the middle two digits. A Satta King record chart holds just one two-digit number for each game on each date.
On this site, a yearly chart for one game has days 1 to 31 as rows and months as columns, for example the Gali record chart 2025. A monthly mix chart puts several games side by side, like the latest monthly Satta King chart. You can also see the Satta King chart 2026 for all games, or browse every year from 2021 in our old results archive. Our guide on how to read a Satta King chart explains the layout and symbols.
Neither kind of chart can tell you a future number. Each result is a separate draw, as explained in why charts cannot predict results.
Are Satta Matka and Satta King legal in India?
No. In most of India, both are illegal gambling, and the law does not treat one more kindly than the other.
Betting and gambling are a State subject under the Constitution, so each state makes its own gambling law. Many still use the Public Gambling Act, 1867, while some have passed newer laws. On top of that, the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025 bans online money games of every type across India. In March 2026 the government said it had acted against "satta and matka gambling networks" while blocking about 300 betting websites and apps. Our guide is Satta King legal in India explains state gambling laws, BNS section 112 and the Online Gaming Act.
